Edit Videos Directly from Google Drive Using New Video Button

Instant Editing, No Export Needed

Google just launched a new shortcut button on every Drive video preview. This button is made for Workspace users who want to edit fast, with no hassle. Clicking it takes you directly to Google Vids, the company’s AI-powered video editor. Now, you can start editing as soon as you view a video, with no extra steps.

Edit from Preview with One Click

While you preview a video, you will see an Open button at the top right. Click it, and your video loads in Vids, ready to edit. You can trim, add music, or put in text. You do not need to export files or import them by hand. It launches from your library, just like opening a doc.

Useful AI Features

Vids, which launched last year, has more than just the basics. It uses AI to generate scripts from a prompt, rearrange scenes, add transitions, and more. It is not for full film work. There are limits, like clips must be under 35 minutes and 4GB. It also only works with certain formats, like MP4, OGG, WebM, and MOV. Still, for Workspace teams and casual video users, these rules make sense for day-to-day use.

Easy to Use and Always On

This new feature is on by default. It is made for speed and is easy to use. Similar to the recent update that allows Gemini to summarize Drive videos, this tool integrates AI directly into your usual workflow, rather than requiring a separate site.

Update Rolls Out Over Two Weeks

The rollout started on August 21. Some users may get it right away, but others might need to wait more than 15 days for it to show up. All Workspace accounts will get it soon.
